About the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and its energy use

The Ioniq 5 is a crossover with six versions in the 2026 EPA data. The standard-range version is the most efficient at 29.0 kWh per 100 miles, and the high-performance N uses 43.0, about 48 percent more.

EPA gives times to charge from empty on a 240 volt connection between 6.3 and 9.1 hours. On a fast public charger, the charging speed is set by the car and the station, and the cost per kWh is usually higher than at home.

If you use public fast chargers

Public fast charging prices are set by each network and change with the place and the time. Check the price on the charger or in the app. This table shows what the Hyundai Ioniq 5 would cost per mile at four example prices, compared with charging at home at the US average.

Break-even gas price

North Dakota price$0.89 a gallon$1.06 a gallon$1.24 a gallon$1.42 a gallon
US average price$1.29 a gallon$1.55 a gallon$1.81 a gallon$2.07 a gallon
Hawaii price$3.03 a gallon$3.64 a gallon$4.24 a gallon$4.85 a gallon

If gas where you live costs more than the figure in the table, charging at home costs less per mile than driving a gas car with that fuel economy. If gas costs less, the gas car is cheaper per mile on fuel alone.

How we calculate it

Cost per mile is the EPA kWh per 100 miles, divided by 100, times the price per kWh. EPA measures efficiency at the wall, so charging losses are already inside the figure. Real efficiency changes with speed, temperature, tires and load, so use the EV charging cost calculator with your own numbers.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 charging cost questions

How much does it cost to charge a Hyundai Ioniq 5?

At about 30.0 kWh per 100 miles for the RWD version, 1,000 miles uses about 300 kWh. Use the tables on this page for the US average and for the cheapest and costliest states.
