Combined rate if you know it.
Estimated monthly bill
$150.59
A planning estimate. Your utility bill may add tiered prices, riders and time-of-use pricing.
How to estimate your bill
- Find your monthly kWh. It is printed on every bill and shown in most online accounts.
- Enter your price per kWh. Divide a past bill total by its kWh for an all-in price, or pick your state to start from its average.
- Add the fixed monthly charge, sometimes called the customer or service charge.
- Add a combined tax and fee percentage if your bill shows one.
Where to find each input on your bill
Most bills list usage in a box or a graph near the top, labeled kWh used or usage. The charges section breaks the total into energy, delivery and other items. If your bill shows a price per kWh for energy and another for delivery, add them to get the per-kWh price for the calculator. Our guide to reading your electric bill walks through a typical statement line by line.

Why your real bill can differ from the estimate
- Tiered prices. Some utilities charge more per kWh after you pass a monthly amount.
- Time-of-use prices. The price changes by hour, so one flat number is an average. See time-of-use rates explained.
- Riders and adjustments. Fuel and other adjustments change from month to month.
- Estimated meter reads. A bill based on an estimate can be off until the next real reading.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my electric bill?
Multiply your kWh by your price per kWh, add any fixed monthly charge, and add taxes and fees. The result is an estimate, because tiered and time-of-use prices can change the total.
How much does 1,000 kWh cost?
At the 2025 US average of 17.23 cents per kWh, 1,000 kWh costs about $172.35. The price in your state may be higher or lower, from about 12 cents to about 40 cents.
What is a fixed charge on an electric bill?
A fixed charge, also called a customer or service charge, is a flat monthly amount for being connected to the grid. You pay it whether you use a lot of electricity or very little.
Is the calculator accurate?
It is accurate for the numbers you enter. It cannot see your rate plan, so treat the result as a planning estimate and check it against a recent bill.
