Find your electric company by ZIP code
We do not store your ZIP code. Your browser downloads a lookup file for the first three digits, then matches the rest on your device.
Utilities reporting service in your ZIP code area
Loading utility data.
ZIP codes matched to counties with Census Bureau 2020 data, and counties matched to utilities with EIA Form EIA-861 service territory data, 2025. Counties and ZIP codes can have several utilities, and city, co-op and municipal boundaries are finer than either. ZIP codes are matched to counties with Census Bureau 2020 ZIP code tabulation areas. Confirm with the name on your bill.
How the ZIP code match works
- ZIP code to county. The Census Bureau publishes which counties each ZIP code area overlaps and how much land lies in each. We use the 2020 relationship file.
- County to utility. Every year utilities tell EIA which counties they serve. We list the utilities for each county, largest first by residential customers.
- You confirm. The bill, the meter or a call to your city settles which one serves your address.
Two steps means two limits. A ZIP code can cover parts of several counties, and a county can have several utilities. The result is a short list of companies that could serve you, not a street-level answer.
Why a ZIP code is not a utility boundary
ZIP codes were drawn for mail delivery. Electric service areas follow older lines: franchise agreements, city limits, cooperative territories and the reach of power lines. A single ZIP code can hold homes of an investor-owned company, a cooperative and a city system. Our tool uses ZIP code tabulation areas, which approximate ZIP codes for the Census, so a few ZIP codes, such as PO box only codes and brand new codes, have no match.
Each county result links to the utility profile when we have one. The profile shows its rates, bills, service area counties and reliability.
Texas ZIP codes: two companies, two jobs
In the competitive parts of Texas, the company the tool shows delivers the power and keeps the lines working. You then choose a retail electric provider for the energy. Municipal utilities such as Austin Energy and CPS Energy, and most electric cooperatives, sit outside that market.
After you find your delivery company, read how Texas electricity choice works, the Texas city guide and how to use Power to Choose, and find your meter number with the ESI ID guide.
How to confirm your own utility
- Check the top of your latest bill. The company name is there.
- If you have no bill, look at the meter. Many carry the utility name.
- Ask your landlord, property manager or a neighbor.
- Call your city or county office and ask who provides electric service at your address.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find my electric company by ZIP code?
Enter your ZIP code in the tool above. It shows the utilities that report service in the county or counties the ZIP code covers. Confirm the result with the name on your bill.
Why does my ZIP code show more than one electric company?
Utility areas do not follow ZIP code or county lines. A ZIP code can hold homes served by an investor-owned company, a cooperative and a city system, so you see each one that reports service in the county.
Can I choose my electric company by ZIP code?
In most places, no. The utility for your address supplies the power. In Texas and a group of other states households can choose a retail supplier, and the local utility still delivers the electricity.
Why does my ZIP code have no result?
PO box only ZIP codes, new ZIP codes and places outside the 50 states and DC have no county match. Try the state and county option on the find my electric company page.
Is my ZIP code stored?
No. Your browser downloads a lookup file for the first three digits and matches the rest on your device. We do not record what you enter.
