This runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to us or saved. It checks length and characters only.

What an ESI ID is

ESI stands for electric service identifier. In the competitive part of Texas, each meter has its own number, and it follows the meter, not the person. When you move into a home, the home's number is the one you enroll. When a provider switches your service, it uses this number to find the meter.

It is not the same as your account number. The account number belongs to your relationship with a provider, and it changes if you switch. The ESI ID stays with the service address.

Where to find it

  1. On a recent bill. Look near the service address for a line labeled ESI ID, ESIID or service ID.
  2. In your Smart Meter Texas account. The portal run for the state's delivery companies shows the number for each meter you register.
  3. From your delivery company. Most offer a lookup by address, or you can call them. Which company serves you is on your bill, or use the find my electric company tool.
  4. From a provider you are enrolling with. Many can find it from your address during sign-up.
  5. From your landlord or property manager, if you are renting and have no bill yet.

When you need it

  • Enrolling with a new provider, or switching providers.
  • Moving in and setting up service at a new address.
  • Asking your provider or delivery company about your meter or usage.

What this page cannot do

The checker above looks only at length and characters. It cannot tell you whether a number belongs to a real meter or to your address. Always confirm the number with your provider or delivery company before you rely on it. Your ESI ID is not a password, but treat it with the same care as an account number, and share it only with companies you are dealing with.
