How the tools handle your numbers
Every calculation happens on your device. We do not send what you type to a server, we do not save it, and we do not ask you to sign up. The state prices that fill in a typical rate come from EIA Form EIA-861, and the home type benchmarks come from the EIA Residential Energy Consumption Survey. The methodology page shows the formulas, and the privacy policy explains what we collect.
The tools give estimates for planning. Your bill depends on your rate plan, the season and how your utility sets charges, so check any result against a recent bill.
Frequently asked questions
Are the tools free?
Yes. They are free to use, with no sign up and no limit.
Do the tools save my bill or my address?
No. They run in your browser and do not send your inputs to our servers. We do not ask for your address at all.
How accurate are the results?
The math is exact for the numbers you enter. The result is an estimate because your utility may use tiered prices, time-of-use prices or adjustments that a single flat rate cannot capture.
